IR Eyewear

FAQ

Do these actually block facial recognition?

IR-based facial recognition systems, including Face ID on smartphones and many security cameras, use infrared to map the geometry of your face and eyes. The lenses in IR Eyewear glasses absorb up to 91% of infrared between 780 and 2000 nm. In the presence of IR, the lenses obscure the eye measurements these systems require.

You can test this yourself: put on a pair and try to unlock a smartphone with Apple’s Face ID. It will not work.

Note: This is a practical layer of protection, not a guarantee of total invisibility. Visible-light cameras and other identification methods are not affected by IR-blocking lenses.

Do standard sunglasses block infrared?

No. Standard sunglasses are designed to block UV. Most do not filter infrared at all. IR Eyewear lenses block IR, UV, and blue light from LED sources and screens in a single pair.

What is the frame material?

The frames are made from a plant-derived cellulose material sourced from cotton and wood fibres. It is not standard acetate. The material is produced by one of only a handful of manufacturers in the world. It is lightweight, dimensionally stable, and biodegradable.

Are the frames unisex?

Yes. All models are unisex and were fit-tested across more than 100 people of varied face shapes and proportions.

How do I know which size to get?

Check the inside of a pair of glasses you already own. Frame dimensions are usually printed on the inner side of the temple. Compare those numbers to the sizes listed on each product page.

Can these be used in professional settings?

Yes. The lenses are suitable for use in medical, physiotherapy, and beauty environments where IR lamps, lasers, or LED devices are in use. They provide meaningful protection for practitioners working with these tools regularly.
